Summer Reading Read Kick-Off

Join us Saturday, June 1, anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for our Paint the Town Read kick-off event! This year’s event is a paint-apalooza! After registering for Paint the Town Read summer reading program, kids are invited to spend some time creating a masterpiece at one of our paint stations. We’ll have a variety of techniques and mediums for young artists to try out. As a special bonus, anyone who registers during our kick-off celebration will be eligible to win a family pool pass to the Bensenville Park District.

Coffee, Donuts, and a Movie…

Join the Bensenville Community Public Library on Saturday, May 25, at 9:30 a.m. for our popular Coffee, Donuts, and a Movie program. Take advantage of the Library’s stadium seating to enjoy complimentary coffee and donuts and watch classics from the 1950’s and 1960’s such as The Big Sleep, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, For Whom the Bells Toll, The Killing,or The Great Escape. All movies will be projected onto the big screen and best of all you get to decide what movie we will be watching. Stop by the reference desk at the Library and place your vote for the movie you want to see. Seating is limited and RSVP is recommended. Got questions? Give the library a call at 630-766-4642.

Book Exchange Party

Looking for something different to read this summer? Join us Thursday, June 6, at 7:00 p.m. for our Book Exchange Party. We’ll have food, fun, plus a few book related crafts. Please bring a book to share and exchange.

This program is part of the Library’s popular Thursdays in the Garden series. All programs begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the Library’s Garden of Knowledge (we’ll move inside if the weather is bad). No registration is required to attend Thursdays in the Garden. Set in late-19th-century Russia high-society, the aristocrat Anna Karenina enters into a life-changing affair with the affluent Count Vronsky. As Anna questions her happiness and marriage, change comes to all around her. The story powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart. Based on the novel by Leo Tolstoy, this film is rated R for sexuality and violence.

Family Movie Night: Frankenweenie

Join the Library Tuesday, June 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bensenville Theatre for a showing of Frankenweenie. Admission to the show is free.

The hilarious and offbeat Frankenweenie is a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous. Frankenweenie is alive with enchanting fun for the whole family! This film is rated PG for thematic elements, scary images and action. Watch the trailer below:

Social Networking Workshops

Have questions about social networking or wonder if it’s right for you? The Library offers social networking workshops on Facebook and LinkedIn. Learn how to manage and create an outstanding web presence for work, or create a private network of friends and family to share videos, pictures, and much more. The workshops are free and take place in the Library’s computer lab.

Want to open a Facebook account? Having trouble navigating your new timeline profile? Do you want to open an account but have questions about your privacy? The Bensenville Library has a workshop that will show you what is new with Facebook and help you manage your privacy settings. Feel free to bring pictures or short videos to upload to your profile during the workshop. We can also help you deactivate an account. Workshop dates:

July 25 at 7:00 p.m.
