Thursday, June 15 – A United Kingdom

Join the Library at the Bensenville Theatre for a showing of A United Kingdom. A United Kingdom is the true story of the forbidden love of King Seretse Khama of Botswana (David Oyelowo) and Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike), a white woman from London, which caused an international uproar when they decided to marry in the late 1940’s just as apartheid was being introduced into South Africa. It was a decision that altered the course of African history. This film is rated PG-13 for some language including racial epithets and a scene of sensuality.

Thursday, July 27 – The Zookeeper’s Wife

Join the Library at the Bensenville Theatre for a showing of The Zookeeper’s Wife, the real-life story of one working wife and mother who became a hero to hundreds during World War II. In 1939 Poland, Antonina Żabińska and her husband, Dr. Jan Żabiński, have the Warsaw Zoo flourishing under his stewardship and her care. When their country is invaded by the Germans, Jan and Antonina are stunned – and forced to report to the Reich’s newly appointed chief zoologist, Lutz Heck. To fight back on their own terms, Antonina and Jan covertly begin working with the Resistance – and put into action plans to save lives out of what has become the Warsaw Ghetto, with Antonina putting herself and even her children at great risk. This film is rated PG-13 for thematic elements, disturbing images, violence, brief sexuality, nudity and smoking.
