Bensenville Bible Church

Bensenville Bible Church had its beginnings in a prayer and Bible study group in the early 1930's with Mr. Alvin D. Munsterman as teacher. The Rev. F. J. Mokma followed Mr. Munsterman, first as an evangelist and then as pastor of the small flock. Meetings were held in the Bensenville Theater building and Village Hall. Under the leadership of the Rev. Erwin Gemand, a Sunday School was organized in the fall of 1935. The group moved into the Old Mill on North Center Street (where Fairchild Printing is now). The Dedication Service was on October 6, 1935 with sixteen charter church members. The building, erected originally for grinding grain, was gradually transformed to meet the needs of the small church. "Grace Gospel Mill" became Bensenville Bible Church. (Click here for a 1939 newspaper clipping of the mill and the church.)

Only two weddings were held at the old mill - Bettye Leek and Oliver Franzen in 1939 and Lorraine Johnson and Bill Brown in 1949. Their pictures are in the cornerstone of the new church. The first wedding in the new church was that of Marion Martin and Loudean Helms.

The present church building, erected, under the leadership of Rev. Robert H. Gibbs, was dedicated on Sunday, November 12, 1950. It was during his second tenure that the new multipurpose building was constructed. It was dedicated to church education, fellowship and recreation on October 29, 1967.
