The Bensenville Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1894, with 21 members. H. H. Korthauer, first fire Chief, is standing to the extreme left in the first row. This picture is one of the earliest made of the all Volunteer Department, and is taken in front of Franzen's House on the main street near the present bank. The fireman bought equipment first, adding uniforms as their funds grew. The hand pumper was horse drawn; the first fireman to arrive with this team hitched them to the wagon.
