Herman H. Korthauer's hardware store was on the northeast corner of Center and Main
Streets. Mr. Korthauer stands on the left in front of his store as it appeared in
1885. At Mr. Korthauer's invitation in 1884, a committee of residents met to discuss
the incorporation of the village. The referendum for incorporation and early village
trustee meetings were held here. Frieden's (Peace) Church members met in this
store in 1902 and 1903 to plan the construction of their church. The building of Green
Street School was also planned here. The store was sold to the Kirchoff's and later
converted to Ellmore's Flower Shop, which burned on July 5, 1963. P38 |
