Halloween Makeup 101

Want to take your Halloween makeup to the next level? Join filmmaker and makeup artist Anthony Sumner to learn the tricks of the trade when doing Halloween makeup at home. From skeletons to head wounds, we will cover it all!

Registration is not required to attend this event, but space is limited. Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Day of the Dead: DIY Calaveras


Wednesday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m.
AGES: 13 years old and up

Day of the Dead (or Día de los Muertos) is an important holiday in Mexican culture — family and friends gather to pray for their dead loved ones’ journey in the afterlife with parades, food, and ceremonial altars. One traditional offering left on altars are intricately decorated calaveras, or skulls. Join us as we will be painting small ceramic calaveras in the traditional Mexican style. Registration is not required to attend, but space is limited. Doors to the event will open at 6:45 p.m. Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and seats cannot be held.

 

Crafting Colorful Papel Picado


Tuesday, October 15 at 6:30 p.m.
AGES: 3 years old and up, adults welcome

Bring the entire family out for an evening celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! Papel picado is the Mexican art of making flags out of colorful paper, a popular Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos. We’ll be creating papel picado art for children and adults of all ages. We’ll also take a look at the various types of flags and symbols in Latin culture. Space is limited, and artists will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Making Mini Volcanoes


Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m.
AGES: 3 years old and up, adults welcome

Join us for a special DIY program celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! Bring the whole family and make an erupting model volcano out of paper mache, baking soda, and vinegar! While you’re building, you will learn about some notable Central American volcanoes. Registration is not required to attend this event, but space and supplies are limited, and patrons will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Valentine Card Making

Celebrate Valentine’s Day and join us for a card-making extravaganza! We will have tons of ideas and supplies to help you create cards for your friends, family, and classmates. Registration is not required to attend, but space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are many ways to tell someone that they are in your thoughts during the holidays—the most creative is by making them a homemade holiday card! Valentine’s Day Dreamcatcher

AGES: Adults only

Native American cultures believe that dreamcatchers serve as a protective charm for the people of their tribe. Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love in many cultures around the world. The combination of these two — protection for people you love perhaps? Whatever the effect, these heart dreamcatchers will be a pleasant addition to any home, or a lovely “thinking of you” gift.

Craft-A-Palooza

AGES: Adults only — there will be crafting opportunities for children in the Youth Services Area

Holiday Throwback Bash

Join us for a fun, relaxing evening at the Library as we celebrate the upcoming holidays. We will be showing our favorite short holiday films and commercials! While we watch the films, we will also be completing a simple holiday craft (and snacking on assorted holiday cookies!).

Holiday Beading

AGES: Adults only

Let’s make some dazzling holiday themed décor! Crafters will receive a wire snowflake form to decorate with their chosen assortment of seed beads, crystal or glass beads, spacers or wooden beads and ribbon. They make a lovely holiday tree topper or window decoration.
