Cuentos & Crafts: Día de la Independencia

Join Ms. Priscyla to learn more about Independence Day for Guatemala and Mexico during this special bilingual storytime! Stay until the end for a fun craft that the whole family can enjoy! Registration is not required to attend this event, but space and supplies are limited on a first-come, first-served basis.


Cuentos & Crafts: Día de los Muertos

AGES: 0 to 8 years old

Join Ms. Priscyla to learn more about the Day of the Dead celebrated in many Latin American countries bilingually. There will be Mexican sweet bread and hot chocolate to enjoy after the cuentos and crafts hour.

Crafting Colorful Papel Picado


Tuesday, October 15 at 6:30 p.m.
AGES: 3 years old and up, adults welcome

Bring the entire family out for an evening celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! Papel picado is the Mexican art of making flags out of colorful paper, a popular Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos. We’ll be creating papel picado art for children and adults of all ages. We’ll also take a look at the various types of flags and symbols in Latin culture. Space is limited, and artists will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lotería


Tuesday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m.
AGES: 3 years old and up, adults welcome

Families and patrons of all ages can head to the Library for a special bilingual night of gaming! We will be playing lotería, a popular game at festivals and parties in Mexico — if you like Bingo, give lotería a try! As we play, all ages can earn special Bingo Bucks to redeem for prizes. Registration is not required, but space is limited to the first 50 children and adults, players will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Making Mini Volcanoes


Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m.
AGES: 3 years old and up, adults welcome

Join us for a special DIY program celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! Bring the whole family and make an erupting model volcano out of paper mache, baking soda, and vinegar! While you’re building, you will learn about some notable Central American volcanoes. Registration is not required to attend this event, but space and supplies are limited, and patrons will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Noche de Película

Join us at the Library every second Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. and take advantage of stadium seating, new HD projection, and free popcorn in the Library’s auditorium for a showing of our favorite family films IN SPANISH. No school? No problem! Join us for a movie on the days that school is closed and take advantage of stadium seating, new HD projection, and free popcorn in the Library’s auditorium for a showing of our favorite family films. Admission to the show is free! Admission is open to all, though space is limited. All films are rated PG. Registration is not required to attend, but space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. All ages!

 

Valentine Card Making


Wednesday, February 12 at 6:30 p.m.
AGES: 5 years and up, adults welcome

Celebrate Valentine’s Day and join us for a card-making extravaganza! We will have tons of ideas and supplies to help you create cards for your friends, family, and classmates. Registration is not required to attend, but space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis.

Indoor Snowball Fight


Monday, January 20 at:

10:30 a.m. — Preschool Edition | AGES: 3 to 5 years old
1:00 p.m. — School Age Edition | AGES: 6 to 11 years old

Stay inside on this no school day and wage a pretend snowball battle against your friends. The Library Meeting Room will be set up for our battle, with objects to hide behind —actual snow not required! Registration is not required, but space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Visit with Santa


Friday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m.
AGES: 11 years old and younger

Bring your little ones for our annual visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. While waiting for their turn on Santa’s lap, kids will be able to make a craft, play games, and more! Remember to bring your camera as this is sure to be a memory you won’t want to forget. All children must be attended by an adult and all adults must be accompanied by a child. Registration is not required to attend this event, but every child requires a ticket to get their picture taken with Santa. Tickets will be available at the start of the program, 6:30 p.m. Families are welcome to attend without a ticket if they do not wish to have their picture taken with Santa.

 

Gingerbread House Making


Saturday, December 7 at 1:00 p.m.
AGES: 5 to 11 years old

Be prepared to get messy and creative as we make “gingerbread” Houses! We will be using graham crackers, frosting, and loads of sweets to make our houses. Registration is not required, but supplies and space are limited to the first 30 children. *Please note, the houses themselves will not be edible.
