                                                                       The Quilt

The quilt you have been looking at was made in 1976 in honor of the nation's Bicentennial. The fifteen blocks represent places and things of historical significance to Bensenville. You will notice it is appliqued, quilted, and embroidered.  The work was begun in early April and was finished in time for the Fourth of July Parade. It currently resides at the Bensenville Community Public Library.

The Lincoln School was the first meeting place of the Homemakers. The White Pines Clubhouse was the meeting place at the time of the quiltmaking. The Homemakers also used to meet at the Bensenville Library.

The needlework was done by the following women:

Laura Seilkopf - Old Peace Church

Elizabeth Powers - Zion Lutheran

Eleanor Leveen - Old Immanuel Church

Angeline Capparelli - an airplane for O'hare Airport

Dorothy Korthauer - Korthauer's Hardware Store

Choyce Patterson - Dial a Bus

Belle O'Connor - White Pines Golf Club

Gladys Velduizen - Homemaker's Insignia

Nancy Landwer - Lincoln School

Rose Lange - Old Railroad Roundhouse

Choyce Patterson - Steam Train Engine

Gladys Velduizen - Bensenville Home "Castle" Building

Helen Kruke - Churchville School

Anna Belle Bonnell - Old Train Station

Eileen Wanders - Old Water Tower

My apologies if I spelled anyone's name incorrectly. I took the information straight out of the Bensenville Chronicle. You can send e-mail to proud_past@yahoo.com or call the library.
