The Boundless app is shutting down because Baker & The Boundless app is shutting down because Baker & Taylor, the company behind it, is closing down. To keep access to Boundless' e-books and audiobooks, eRead Illinois is moving the collection to a new app called The Palace Project. This is an industry decision (not something your library controls), but we want to make sure you know what’s happening and what to expect.

The Palace Project app will offer some great benefits, like combining e-books and audiobooks from different sources into one app and providing access to more titles, including some from Audible. While this transition is happening quickly, it’s being done to make sure you can keep enjoying your digital library.

Here’s what you need to know:
▪️ Starting now, you can’t place new holds in the Boundless app.
▪️ Your current holds and checkout history will not transfer to the new app, so make a list of any titles you want to remember.

Key Dates:

📅 Sunday, November 2: Last day to check out books in Boundless.
📅 Monday, November 17: Boundless stops working, and content starts moving to The Palace Project.
📅 Tuesday, December 2: The Palace Project app will be ready for download. You can log in and start reading again.

Thank you for your patience during this unexpected change. If you have questions, please contact us in-person or via phone call (630-766-4642). We’re here to help you through the transition.

We want to share some important news regarding how We want to share some important news regarding how our library purchases books: Baker & Taylor, a major book distributor that's been in business for almost 200 years, will be closing soon. This shift is also affecting libraries across the country.

What you might notice:
▪️ New releases and popular titles will take longer to arrive on our shelves over the next few weeks.
▪️ Boundless (the eBook app) is still available, but no new titles are being added right now.

What we're doing right now:
▪️ We’re exploring new book vendors to keep your favorite reads coming.
▪️ We are prioritizing ordering popular and high-demand titles until a new vendor is selected.

Here’s how you can stay ahead:
✔️ Place holds early for upcoming titles
✔️ Dive into our digital collections on Libby, Comics Plus, and Boundless
✔️ Ask us for recommendations: this is a great time to discover something new!
✔️ Subscribe to our eNewsletter to discover the newest book arrivals (benlib.org/subscribe)
✔️ Is there a book that will be published soon that you'd like to get your hands on? Make a purchase suggestion through the catalog, call us, or tell a librarian, and we will do our best to get it in your hands.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate this library-wide change. We know it's frustrating to wait for holds (even under normal circumstances) and this sudden vendor shutdown adds extra challenges. Please know we're feeling the impact too and doing everything we can to keep books in your hands.
