Free Comic Book Day

Saturday, May 6 — All Day!

The superheroes are coming! Join the Library for Free Comic Book Day, a nationwide event held the first Saturday in May each year where participating comic book shops and libraries around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE. Stop by the Youth Services Desk for your free comic (while supplies last).

LEGO Breakfast Block Party

Tuesday, March 28 at 10:30 a.m.
AGES: 5 to 12 years old

Do you love LEGOs? Join us at our LEGO Breakfast Block Party! This special event will feature a special building challenge inspired by The LEGO Batman Movie. One builder’s creation will be selected as our judge’s favorite, and that builder will win a LEGO Batman building set. Donuts and juice will be provided for all builders. Space is limited, and builders will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Firefighter Appreciation Day

Thursday, May 4 at 10:30 a.m.

Join us for the fun as we celebrate International Firefighters’ Day! Miss Kyrie and Miss Diane will welcome two very special firefighters who will read aloud and teach us important fire safety skills. Then we’ll head outside to see the fire vehicles from the Bensenville Fire Protection District. A new addition this year will be the Fire Safety Trailer! This is a simulated home were a firefighter will guide children through steps they should take if there is a fire in their own home. Registration is not required to attend.



Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m.
June 14 – July 26

Join us every Wednesday for LEGO building fun. We’ll provide our extensive collection of bricks and elements, while you provide the imagination! Come up with your own building ideas or use our weekly theme to inspire you. After you are done building bring your creation to our photo station so that we can feature it on our Instagram page. No registration is required to attend, but space is limited.


Reading with Adele


Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
September 6 – February 28

Kids are invited to practice their reading skills at Reading with Adele! Adele, a friendly, trained therapy dog is at the Library every Wednesday afternoon to provide patient, nonjudgmental attention and help reluctant readers gain confidence and improve their reading skills. Registration is not required to attend, but space is limited to 10 minutes per reader. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.



Park Play


Fridays at 10:30 a.m.
June 9 – July 28

Children of all ages are invited to join us on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. for Park Play, the Library’s outdoor playgroup. Each week the Library will be at Sunset Park for an hour of outdoor play. Socialize with other parents and caregivers while your child enjoys sunshine, fresh air, as well as active, manipulative, and sensory play. NOTE: Park Play will be relocated to the Library’s meeting room in inclement weather.


Baby Social Hour

Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
March 1—July 26
AGES: 6 months to 2 years old

Parents and their little ones are invited to join Miss Kyrie for an hour of messy art and creative play for children 6 months to 2 years old. Age appropriate art supplies and toys will be provided. This unstructured social time is a drop-in event and no registration is required.

Summer’s End Beading Soiree

Thursday, August 3 at 7:00 p.m.
AGE: Adults only

Create something beautiful for yourself using a wide array of colorful beads and findings. We’ll provide all of the basic beading tools and supplies you’ll need. Just bring your creativity! Registration is not required to attend, but space is limited. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cupcake Decorating for the Holidays

Thursday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m.
AGE: Adults Only

Patrice Aguirre returns to share her cupcake decorating tricks, tips, and techniques and to spark your own creativity for the approaching holiday parties! Bring your apron and ideas! Registration is not required to attend, but space is limited. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Let’s Talk: ESL Conversation Group

Do you want to practice speaking English? If so, come to this ESL conversation group. It will be a get together of people who want to practice their English. No experience necessary, just a desire to speak English. Please contact the Adult Services Desk for more information.
